ALARM PANELS

An Alarm Panel or control panel is the equipment controlling the signalling and detection devices, (sensors or detectors) that form a complete alarm system. The signalling and detection devices connect to the alarm inputs and outputs. Inputs, referred to as circuits or zones are used for the detection devices and outputs are used for signalling and communication devices. When an alarm condition occur the alarm panel could generate an audible indication of an intrusion or emergency event such fire, medical or panic, provide a visible indication via a strobe or flashing light and/or communicate the alarm event to the reaction and monitoring company. The control panel is normally linked to a keypad which is used to control the functions of the alarm system. By entering a valid user code followed by a command the user can arm/disarm (turn the system on or off), bypass or isolate an area, circuit or zone of the alarm system, activate a fire, medical or panic event. The alarm control panel is housed in a metal or plastic housing, supplied with a standby back up battery allowing the alarm system to operate for a period of time during power outages and the control panel is installed in a secure location such as a cupboard or utility room. Keypads allowing control of the alarm system will be placed at convenient locations close to the main entrance point and in domestic installations an additional keypad could be placed in the main bedroom.
